Come to think of it ...
가만히생각해보니

"Think of it"에 "Come to"해보니 라는 의미다. 그것에 대해서 다시 생각하는 것에 이르니 ... 라고 생각하면 됩니다.
무슨 말을 들었을 때는 그런 생각이 안들다가 가만히 생각해보니 이런 생각이 들더라 할 때 쓸 수 있습니다.

예문)
Come to think of it, thats a good idea anyhoo.
Come to think of it, I know someone who can help.
Come to think of it, nobody likes me anywhere I go.
Come to think of it, you don't know them either.

In the first place
첫째, 첫째로

우리도 글에서 첫째, 어쩌고 저쩌고, 둘째, 이렇고 저렇고 하는 것처럼 여러가지 이유나 논거를 설명할 때 첫째, 둘째라고 흔히 합니다.
영어에서는 In the first place를 쓰면 됩니다.

In the first place ... and In the second place ...

예문)
I don't like to go to opera.
In the first place, opera bores me, and in the second place, opera is expensive.

two peas in a pod
꼭 같이 닮은

직역하면 콩깍지속의 콩2개라는 뜻이죠.
콩깍지 안의 콩들을 누가 구별할 수 있겠습니까?
다 거기서 거기로 똑깥이 생겼죠.
꼭 같이 닮았다는 뜻으로 관용적으로 매우 흔하게 쓰는 말입니다.


예문)
The twins are as like as two peas in a pod.
The two girls must be sisters, they look like two peas in a pod.

영화 바람과함께사라지다 기억하시죠. 옛날 여자들은 옷입기도 힙들더군요.
제대로 차려입으려면 한두개를 입는게 아니더군요.
한 아홉개쯤 입나요? 그래서 to the nines로 하는게 아닌까요?

It dosen't rain in London as often as many people think.
런던에서는 사람들이 생각하는 것만큼 자주 비가 오는 것은 아닙니다.

다들 아는 표현이지만 as ~ as ~ 는 유용하게 쓰이는 표현입니다.
아래처럼 뭐든지 같다 붙일 수 있습니다.
그냥 주욱 연결되서 나올 수 있도록 익숙해져야 합니다.

~ as much as you like
~ as long as you want
~ as pretty as a picture
~ as soon as possible

This kind of food is new to me.
이거 처음먹어보는 음식인데.

뭐든지 처음이 있게 마련이죠. 그럴 때 쉽게 쓸 수 있는 표현입니다. 
물론 길게 쓸 수 있는 표현들도 있지만 "new to me"를 사용하시면 간단하게 표현 할 수 있습니다.
뭐든지 갖다 붙여보세요.

This kind of wine is new to me.
That information is new to me.
Everything I saw and heard was new to me.
It's all new to me.

이중에서 "This kind of food is new to me." 하나만은 꼭 외웁시다.

There are only five minutes left.
5분남았습니다.

그냥 "Five minutes left."라고 해도 됩니다.
미국 여행을 할 때 운전을 하고 어디를 가면 미국에 사는 친구 딸이 계속 "How many minutes left?"라고 계속 물어보더군요.
이때 "Ten minutest left." 이렇게 대답을 하면 됩니다.

"How many minutes left?"
"Ten minutest left."
이 두 문장을 짝을 지워서 외워 보세요.
