Collocations는 강조의 표현을 하기 위해서 같이 쓰는 단어들로써 이유는 없지만 누구나가 그렇게 쓰는 표현들입니다. collocations를 잘 사용하면 영어 표현을 좀더 자연스럽고 풍부하게 할 수 있습니다.

오늘은 그 중에 하나인 categorically deny(전면 부인하다) 입니다. 왜  deny 앞에 categorically가 붙냐고요? 이유는 없습니다.

예문)

  • Kim categorically denied embezzling company money, insisting the money was taken out of country to pay back loans of Daewoo`s overseas branches, not for personal purposes. (출처: The Korea Herald)

    김 전 회장은 개인적 목적이 아니라 대우그룹의 해외지사 대출을 상환하기 위해 돈이 반출되었다며 회사자금 횡령혐의는 부인했다.

    그러나 김 전 회장은 회사 자금 25조원을 비자금으로 해외에 빼돌렸다는 의혹은 전면 부인했다고 검찰은 말했다.

The earth is going round the sun이 맞을까요?

항상 일어나는일, 반복적으로 일어나는 일, 진리를 표현할 때는 현재형(present simple)을 사용합니다.

따라서 The earth goes round the sun이 맞습니다.

오늘은 그 중에 하나인 readily endorse(흔쾌히 승인하다) 입니다. 왜  endorse 앞에 readily가 붙냐고요? 이유는 없습니다.

Does your English get better? 가 맞을까요?

최근에 일어난 변화에 대해서 얘기할 때는 현재진행형(present continuous)를 사용합니다.
따라서 Is your English getting better? 가 맞습니다.

이렇게 변화를 표현하는 동사들에는 다음과 같은 것들이 있습니다.

getting
changing
becoming
increasing
rising
falling
growing
improving
starting

흔히 Are you a student? 하고 물의면 I'm a worker라고 대답하곤 합니다.
문법적으로는 맞는 표현이지만 이렇게는 안쓰죠.

I work.
또는 I'm a consultant. I'm a doctor 라고 해야 맞는 표현입니다.

오늘은 그 중에 하나인 utterly refuse(완전히 거절하다)입니다. 왜 refuse(거절하다) 앞에 utterly(완전히)가 붙냐고요? 이유는 없습니다.
