사람을 버리다라는 뜻입니다.
동사구는 그 쓰임새와 같이 문장을 통해서 익히는 것이 좋습니다.
와이프와 크게 싸우고 등을 돌리고 헤어져서 걸어 나오는 모습을 상상해보시면 됩니다.

He walked out on his wife. 와 같이 사용할 수 있습니다.
Frank waked out on his wife after twenty years of marriage.

5분영어 - blow up

blow는 입으로 바람을 후~ 하고 부는 거죠.
풍선을 계속 불면 어떻게 되죠? 점점 커지다가 나중에는 폭발하죠.
그래서 blow up은
"팽창하다"
"폭발하다"
라는 의미를 모두 가지고 있습니다.

The bomb blew up without any warning. 아무런 경고도 없이 폭탄이 폭발했다.
The car blew up after the accident.
사고후 차가 폭발했다.
The pressure was low, so I blew the tire up.
타이어 압력이 낮아서 타이어에 바람을 넣었다.
Phrasal verb는 의미만 익히는 것보다는 예문을 큰소리로 여러번 반복해서 말해서 입에 익히는 것이 훨씬 기억에 오래 남습니다.
그리고 그냥 암기할려고 하지 말고 장면을 자꾸 연상하시면 의미를 몸에 익히는데 도움이 됩니다.
그냥 외워서는 쉽게 잊혀집니다.

제목이 좀 이상하죠?
look up이 동사구(Prasal verb)로 쓰였을 때와 그냥 동사와 전치사로 쓰였을 때의 차이를 보려고 합니다.

He looked up her number in the phone book
He looked up the stairway to see if she was on the second floor.

첫번째 문장은 동사구로 찾다는 의미를 가지고 두번째 문장은 그냥 위를 본 것을 뜻합니다.

- Go into a building to steal something

break는 부수는 것이고
in은 안으로라는 뜻이다.

즉, 뭔가를 훔치기 위해서 빌딩이나 집으로 들어가는 것을 말합니다.

예문) 
The burglars broke in and stole the TV and video. 
Someone broke into his office.

about과 around는 움직이는 뜻을 가진 동사와 같이 사용하면 특별한 방향이나 목적이 없이 여기저기로 움직이는 것을 말합니다.

이러한 뜻으로 사용되는 Phrasal verbs에는 다음과 같은 것들이 있습니다.

get around - 여러 장소를 돌아다니다.
예문) He gets around a lot- he's always flying somewhere different.

go around - 돌아다니다;(여기저기) 여행하다; 잠깐 방문하다, 들르다 
예문) A rumour is going around about the Attorney General.
예문) I went around for dinner at their house.

rook around - 둘러보다; ~을 찾아 돌아다니다.
예문) He looked around for Willy, but there was nothing but the snowstorm around him.

order about[around] - 남에게 마구 명령하다;마구 부리다
예문) Stop ordering me about.
예문) I'm fed up with my bos! She's always ordered me about.

play around[about] - 놀러 다니다, 뛰어놀다;농지거리를 하다
예문) The prime minister was caught playing around his lover.

run around - 여기저기 뛰어다니다, 돌아다니다.
예문) He spent all day running around to look for a job.

shop around - 싸고 좋은 물건을 찾아 다니다.
예문) If you shop around, you can find some real bargains for air tickets.

walk around - 주변을 걷다.
예문) Visitors walk around a wildlife protection area and see 70 wild animals.

about과 around는 우선 특별한 목적이나 목표가 결여되어 있는 것을 의미합니다. 
따라서 어슬렁 거리거나 빈둥대거나 할때 주로 사용합니다.

이러한 뜻으로 사용되는 Phrasal verbs에는 다음과 같은 것들이 있습니다.

hang around[about] - 부근을 어슬렁 대다.
예문) They hang around the station most of the day.

laze about[around] - 게으름을 피우다.
예문) He is lazing around at home all day.

lay around[about] - 누워서 뒹굴다.
lie around[about] - 누워서 뒹굴다.
예문) The lazy bone lies about all day.

lounge about - 빈둥빈둥 놀며 지내다.
예문) kangaroos lounge about on the campus.

sit around[about] - 하는 일 없이 지내다, 빈둥빈둥 보내다
예문) Don't sit around twiddling your thumbs. Get busy!

stand around[about] - 우두커니 서있다.
예문) He stood around for a moment.

뜻만 한번씩 보지 말고 예문을 5번씩 소리를 내어 읽으면 저절로 외워집니다.
